Virginia’s track and field program has received a boost from a former Cavalier volleyball player. Amy Mitchell Griffin (Col ’98) pledged $5 million toward the construction of a planned $14 million track facility—the largest gift ever made for an Olympic-sport capital project at UVA.

The track facility will include a new entrance plaza, seating for 1,500 fans, lights, a scoreboard and team locker rooms.

“It now establishes a tangible venue for us to be proud of,” track and field coach Jason Vigilante told the Charlottesville Daily Progress. “We don’t have that right now … We’ve lost a lot of recruits because of that in the past.”
