Applications up, offer rates down for Class of 2029
It was another busy admissions cycle for UVA.
For the Class of 2029, the total number of applications across all three admissions cycles—early decision, early action and regular decision—grew by 8.4 percent, surpassing 60,000 for the first time. Overall acceptance rates for in-state and out-of-state students declined compared with the previous year.
Among Virginia and out-of-state applicants, the binding early decision round had the highest offer rate—29.5 percent for in-state applicants and 21 percent for out-of-state students. The early action round, which offers a faster decision but isn’t binding, had the next-highest offer rate. Twenty-five percent of in-state applicants received offers, compared with 13 percent of out-of-state applicants.
Regular-decision offers, announced in mid-March, were the most competitive. Just 11 percent of in-state and 9 percent of out-of-state applicants were admitted.
UVA aims to enroll about 3,970 students for the first-year class.
