Mary Elizabeth Keys Buttitta (Law ’20 CM) of Los Angeles died Feb. 27, 2024. A Chicago native, she earned her bachelor’s degree in economics, with minors in Spanish and environmental studies, from Loyola University Chicago. She then attended UVA School of Law, where she was involved in the student environmental law group, founded a food law student group, was a member of the vegan and vegetarian society, and enjoyed exploring the wooded trails around Grounds. She pursued a law internship at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency office in Chicago and at RUSH University Medical Center. She was proud to have passed the California bar exam on the first try, and in 2021 she fulfilled her lifelong dream of moving West. She made her home in Los Angeles, where she worked for Winston & Strawn as an associate lawyer in real estate law. She also did pro bono work with detained migrants and victims of wrongful evictions. She was an avid gardener, music lover and NPR enthusiast. Survivors include her parents, three sisters and a nephew.
