Martina Elaine Will (Col class of ’90) of Denver died Aug. 10, 2025. After studying at UVA, she went on to receive her master’s in Latin American studies from the University of California, San Diego, and her Ph.D. in history from the University of New Mexico. An accomplished writer, researcher and academic, she taught at Texas Woman’s University and Regis University while raising her family of three children. In 2007 she published her book, Death and Dying in New Mexico. She volunteered for Casa de Paz, a nonprofit that provides temporary housing for asylum seekers and immigrants, and wrote for her community newspaper, Front Porch, highlighting stories about underserved populations. Her loved ones remember her as an adventurous, tenacious and passionate woman. Survivors include three children; her parents; and three siblings, including Christopher Will (Col class of ’86).


Mary C. Waldron (Grad class of ’99, class of ’04) of Bloomington, Indiana, died July 22, 2025. After graduating from the University of Washington, she came to UVA to earn a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. After doing research at Washington University in St. Louis, she took a position in the School of Education at Indiana University, receiving tenure and winning a National Institutes of Health career development award and several teaching awards. Her research focused on twins, working through the lenses of behavior genetics, clinical psychology and developmental psychology. She and her husband, Richard, met at an academic conference for twin researchers, and the couple went on to have twins of their own. She enjoyed living in a 1950s modernist house and exploring her interests in design, renovation and landscaping. In addition to Richard, survivors include her two sons, her mother, a brother, a niece, a nephew and a cousin.
