Larry Joe Ellcessor Jr. (Engr ’93, ’97 CM) of Denver died Oct. 24, 2024. After earning his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from UVA, he worked as a patent examiner. He returned to Grounds to complete his master’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry for companies like Northrop Grumman, ITT and, most recently, SEAKR Engineering. He was an avid runner, triathlete, cyclist and snowboarder. Survivors include his former wife, Elena Bertolotti Ellcessor (Col ’93 CM); his mother; two sons; and three siblings.


Aaron Wunsch (Arch class of ’96) of Philadelphia died Sept. 20, 2024. He earned his master’s degree in architectural history and certificate in historic preservation from UVA. He also held a bachelor’s degree in history from Haverford College and a doctorate in architectural history from the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2008, he had served as a professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Stuart Weitzman School of Design, teaching courses in historic preservation and American architecture. In 2016 he published his book Palazzos of Power: Central Stations of the Philadelphia Electric Company, 1900-1930. In 2023 he won the Henry J. Magaziner Award from the Philadelphia chapter of the American Institute of Architects for “significant contribution to the preservation of Philadelphia’s built environment.” He collected books, maps and lithographs and could assemble a bicycle from scratch. Survivors include his wife, Jillian; his son; his parents; and his brother.


Michael Alexander (Com ’99 CM) of New York City died Sept. 13, 2024. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and government from UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce. He served as president of the UVA chapter of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He began his career at Blackstone Group as an associate, kicking off his 25 years in finance and investments. He spent the bulk of his professional life at Marathon Asset Management as a managing director and, most recently, co-head of U.S. Opportunistic Credit. In addition to being an avid reader, he was also an accomplished distance runner who completed five of the six World Marathon Majors. He loved spending time with his children, accompanying them to events including a Taylor Swift concert and a UFC fight. Survivors include his wife, Sarah; two children; his mother; his brother; and many nieces and nephews.
