Zoe N. Bryans (Col ’92) of Hacksneck, Va., died Sept. 28, 2013. She began her nursing career at Heritage Hall in Lexington, Va., and subsequently worked as a palliative care nurse with Rockbridge Area Hospice for eight years. Ms. Bryans then worked as a critical care nurse at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville before joining Home Health and Palliative Care, a unit of Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, Va. A volunteer nurse and translator on several medical missions to Haiti, she loved books, birds and gardening. She and her husband loved cooking and hosting outdoor meals for friends. Survivors include her husband, her mother and two brothers.

Rachel Anne Quadt Cullen (Col ’94) of Arlington, Va., died April 6, 2013. At the University, she volunteered with Madison House, lived in the Maison Française and was a member of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity and First Year Players. She taught English in Paris for two years after graduation, returning to Virginia to work as a project manager for several high-tech firms in the Northern Virginia area. Ms. Cullen, who had the ability to make a personal connection with each person she met, served as president of the Mothers of North Arlington and as a parenting counselor to teenage mothers for Borromeo Housing in Arlington. She loved reading, traveling, volunteering and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband and their three children; a brother, David Quadt (Col ’92 L/M); a step-brother, Tim Williams (Engr ’93); and a step-sister.

Bryan W. Heath (Col ’94 L/M) of Birmingham, Ala., died Aug. 4, 2013. At the University, he was a member of the football team and Sigma Chi fraternity. He was a kind man who loved the outdoors, enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing and coaching youth football and baseball. Survivors include his wife and their two children; his parents and a brother.

Derek H. Neal (Col ’95) of Tucson, Ariz., died Aug. 10, 2013. He was a nurse in the pediatric ICU at the University of Arizona Medical Center and was working toward his M.D. degree. An avid soccer player, coach and fan all his life, Mr. Neal coached his son’s soccer team for many years. Survivors include his wife and their two children, his mother and a sister, Stacie Neal (Col ’92).
