Richard S. Minturn (Arch ’80 CM) of Charlottesville died Feb. 10, 2025. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard in 1971 before earning his master’s in architecture from UVA. He raised his children in Massachusetts, later returning to Charlottesville to work at UVA. He began as a project manager in facilities management and became a senior academic facility planner in the provost’s office. Some of his proudest achievements were his roles in the renovation of Shannon Library and the building of the new School of Data Science and the Contemplative Sciences Center. He enjoyed sailing, hiking with his children, traveling with his wife and walking his dog. He had recently joined the board of Preservation Piedmont. Survivors include his wife, Suzanne; his two children, Mary “Molly” Minturn (Col class of ’02) and John “Jake” Minturn (Col ’07 CM); two siblings; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Tamera Cauthorne-Burnette (Nurs ’83 CM) of Rockville, Virginia, died May 11, 2025. While studying nursing at UVA, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and the Raven Society. She was a primary care provider in areas of underserved populations across Virginia. She also served as an adjunct clinical faculty member for VCU’s School of Nursing graduate program, authoring numerous book chapters and periodical articles. In 2012, she joined CareMore, eventually becoming its lead nurse practitioner for Virginia and Washington, D.C. From 1998 to 1999, she was a fellow at the Sorenson Institute for Political Leadership at UVA. She served on the boards of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, the UVA School of Nursing Alumni Association, the UVA Health Sciences Council and the Virginia Nurses Political Action Committee. She was a lifelong equestrian and foxhunter. Survivors include her husband, William; her parents; her brother; and several nieces and nephews.


Peter Douglas Croyle (Col ’83 CM) of North Judson, Indiana, died Feb. 9, 2025. At UVA, he was a member of the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society and Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. He attended graduate school at American University before embarking on his career in the travel industry, planning and leading tours and giving enrichment lectures aboard cruise ships all over the world. He especially enjoyed his 12 trips to Antarctica. He was a master scuba diver who had explored the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. He was also a volunteer tour guide instructor in Vietnam. He returned to Indiana every year to see the Indianapolis 500; last May was his 50th race. He is survived by his parents, his brother, a niece and many friends around the world.


Paul Drexel Biddle (Arch class of ’86) of Los Angeles died April 17, 2025. His lifelong love of art inspired him to study architecture at UVA, where he was a member of St. Anthony Hall (Delta Psi). He later received a master’s degree from the American Film Institute. He settled in Los Angeles, falling in love with the beautiful landscapes, Hollywood glamour and his community. He began his career directing and producing TV advertisements. He then opened his business, Drexel Design, designing dozens of private homes in L.A. Besides his love of architecture and videography, he also enjoyed skiing, writing and riding motorcycles. Throughout his life, he kept his family members laughing with his sense of humor and penchant for storytelling. Survivors include his father; six siblings; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nephews and cousins.
