Ann Conjura (Col ’80 L/M) of Huntington, W.Va., died July 18, 2011. Dr. Conjura was the medical director for Hospice of Huntington, and a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the West Virginia Board of Medicine and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care. She received the Zack Binkley Award for Community Service in 1999. She was a citizen member of the editorial board of the Herald-Dispatch; United Way of the River Cities, serving as a member of its board of directors and as president; Huntington YMCA as a board of directors member and chair of the Physical Education Committee; a member of the Junior League of Huntington; and a Huntington Museum of Art volunteer. Survivors include her husband, Rodger A. Blake (Col ’82 L/M).

Carlton S. Jones (Col ’80 L/M) of Richmond, Va., died Sept. 26, 2011. At the University, he was a member of the baseball team. Later, Mr. Jones was a senior vice president of CB Ellis in Richmond. Survivors include a brother, J. Barrett Jones (Law ’75). Russell S. Jones (Engr ’80) of Rock Hill, S.C., died Sept. 1, 2011. Mr. Jones was vice president of Renshaw-Heilman and Associates in Columbia, S.C., until he joined Premier Healthcare Systems in Charlotte, N.C. In 2008, Mr. Jones formed his own consulting firm with a global clientele, designing equipment for hospital operating rooms. He was a member of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, the American Society for Healthcare Engineering and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Mr. Jones enjoyed outdoor activities such as skiing and deep sea fishing.

Martha Boone McGarry (Law ’80 L/M) of Chevy Chase, Md., died May 30, 2011. Ms. McGarry practiced law in the Washington, D.C., area at Shaw Pittman until she moved to Winchester, Mass., in 1988. In 2000, she returned to the Washington area and was very active in community work, as well as serving as a committed volunteer in her children’s schools.

Janet Hunt Stepp (Nurs ’81 L/M) of Glen Allen, Va., died July 29, 2011. Ms. Stepp was a nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond, Va., in the critical care, cardiology and hospice departments. Ms. Stepp was also former treasurer of the Richmond chapter of the Virginia Nurses Association. Survivors include her husband, Joseph H. Stepp (Com ’80 L/M).

William “Hal” Carlson (Col ’82 L/M) of Torrance, Calif., died June 29, 2011. At the University, he was president of WUVA, the University’s student-operated radio station. He later worked in senior roles on the media side of the advertising industry, culminating in media director positions at several top agencies while traversing the U.S. from Richmond, Va.; Minneapolis; Kalamazoo, Mo.; Portland, Ore.; Philadelphia and Los Angeles.

Stephen F. Dapogny (Engr ’84) of Redmond, Wash., died Sept. 24, 2011. He served in the U.S. Navy. He also volunteered with Evergreen Hospice. He was a member of Cascade Brewers Club and at the time of his death was enrolled in the International Diploma in Brewing Technology program at the Siebel Institute in Chicago. Survivors include his wife, Carol Harvey Dapogny (Col ’84 L/M).

Scott R. Pratt (Col ’87 L/M) of Houston died Sept. 2, 2011. Mr. Pratt was a deputy agent for legal affairs of the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency in Washington, D.C. He later became vice president of James E. Bradshaw & Co. Mr. Pratt was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Houston and served as a board member of the Periwinkle Foundation and the Houston Council on Drugs and Alcohol. In 2011, he retired from the financial services industry to concentrate on managing private family investments.

Michael R. Wellish (Col ’87 L/M) of Apex, N.C., died July 23, 2011. At the University, he was a member of the swimming and diving team, and received the following recognitions: ACC academic honor roll, varsity letter recipient, outstanding diver award, ACC diving finalist, and was a member of the 1984 ACC Championship swimming and diving team. After graduation, he joined Morgan Stanley in New York City. He moved to Winston Salem, N.C., where he was employed by R.J. Reynolds, before relocating to Apex, N.C., where he joined GlaxoSmithKline at Research Triangle Park.

Ani Gasti (Col ’88 L/M) of Orlando, Fla., died July 9, 2011. He was the director of faculty development at Full Sail University. Having joined Full Sail in 2003, Mr. Gasti taught a variety of courses, launched the English department as chair, held the position of program director of the entertainment business bachelor of science degree and helped to create the Internet marketing master of science degree program. Prior to his work at Full Sail, Mr. Gasti was an international business consultant for the University of Shanghai in China and worked in broadcast production at Bartle Bogle Hegarty, a global advertising agency in New York City. He preceded this position at BBH with five years in the original television movie division of HBO Films, where he held the position of director of development. During his earlier years in Los Angeles, Mr. Gasti worked as a freelance story analyst for Twentieth Century Fox, Walt Disney Studios and Universal Pictures.

Timothy A. Haskins (Col ’89 L/M) of Spartanburg, S.C., died July 6, 2011. After graduation, he worked in information technology. He loved reading, cooking, gaming and animals.
