Gordon Granger IV (Educ ’55 CM) of Earlysville, Virginia, died Jan. 6, 2024. In 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served for two years. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to his native Charlottesville and enrolled at UVA with the help of the GI Bill. He was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity and played football under coach Art Guepe. After graduation, he traveled the country as an employee of Delta Upsilon. He taught history and coached high school football before entering his lifelong profession as a stockbroker. After living in Richmond for several years, he and his family settled on a family farm just outside of Charlottesville. He was a great cattleman, and every year planted a large garden and grew more vegetables than the family could eat in a year. He would often take baskets full of vegetables to his local friends. He enjoyed teaching his daughters to garden, fix fences, bale hay, drive tractors and cut grass. Survivors include four daughters, including F. Champe Granger (Com ’84, Grad ’93 CM) and Kate Oprandy (Nurs class of ’08); and three grandchildren. 
Charles Andrew Cole Jr. (Law ’57 CM) of Marietta, Georgia, died Aug. 12, 2023. He received his law degree from UVA after earning a chemical engineering degree from North Carolina State University. He went on to practice law in Smyrna, Georgia, and was a lifetime member of the Cobb County Bar Association. When not working, he was active in woodworking, politics and model railroading. He also enjoyed watching football, live theater and movies. Survivors include two children, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
L. Martin Flanagan (Law ’58 CM) of West Palm Beach, Florida, died Feb. 3, 2024. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later in the Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of captain. He graduated from the Citadel in 1953 and earned his law degree from UVA in 1958. He practiced law in West Palm Beach for more than 60 years. He specialized in the defense of physicians and hospitals in medical malpractice cases and clients such as General Motors and Ford Motor Co. in product liability cases. He served as president of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association and was a member of the National Product Liability Advisory Council. He was a longtime member of the West Palm Beach Kiwanis Club and served on the board of directors. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Mary. Survivors include four children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
