Randolph Alexander Brown (Col ’36, Law ’37 A/M) of Louisville, Ky., died Dec. 18, 2009. He was elected to the 1940 session of the Kentucky Legislature and, in 1941, was appointed assistant U.S. attorney. Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and received a Bronze Star. Returning to Louisville, he practiced law as a partner in Brown and Dudley; Brown, Ardery, Todd and Dudley; and Brown, Todd and Heyburn. Mr. Brown was a trustee of the Louisville Free Public Library and was president of the American Council of Urban Library Trustees. He was also a former head of the Louisville committee of the Council on Foreign Relations. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Dabney Brown (Educ ’55).

Charles Tilden Hagan Jr. (Law ’36 A/M) of Greensboro, N.C., died Oct. 16, 2009. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. During World War II, Mr. Hagan received a Bronze Star, a Letter of Commendation, a Presidential Unit Citation with bronze star and numerous campaign medals. He practiced law in Greensboro and served as solicitor for Guilford and Davidson counties. In 1955 Mr. Hagan founded the firm that became Adams Kleemeier Hagan Hannah & Fouts. He was chairman of the Greensboro Coliseum commission.

John Forsyth Cobb Glenn (Engr ’37, Law ’40 L/M) of Richmond, Va., died Oct. 9, 2009. During World War II, he served on the War Production Board and in the American Field Service of the British Army in Burma. Mr. Glenn had a private patent practice and argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. He become chief patent council of Reynolds Metals Co., where he fought for patents for stay-on can tops and other inventions. In later years he returned to private practice. Survivors include sons John F.C. Glenn Jr. (Col ’69, GSBA ’72 L/M) and Charles E. Glenn (Engr ’73, Law ’78 A/M); and a granddaughter, Sarah C. Glenn (Col ’09).

Violet Hepler Rice (Nurs ’37) of Covington, Va., died Sept. 24, 2009. She worked as a registered nurse at Alleghany Memorial Hospital and other area hospitals for many years.

Rebecca Duke Ware (Nurs ’38) of Richmond, Va., died Dec. 7, 2009. She worked as a registered nurse at Grace Hospital in Richmond.

Monroe Warren Jr. (Col ’39) of Silver Spring, Md., died Dec. 26, 2009. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Warren worked as a project and sales manager, and officer, for Meadowbrook, a company founded by his father that built homes in the metropolitan D.C. area. He was also vice president of Thomas Kelly Realtors.
