Committee to help develop UVA’s next long-term strategic plan
President Scott Beardsley has chartered a 22-member committee to help him develop UVA’s next long-term strategic plan, with a goal of presenting it to the Board of Visitors for review in April, according to a news release.
Co-chaired by Jennifer West, dean of the School of Engineering, and R. Marc Johnson (Educ class of ’08, Darden class of ’13), vice president for strategic initiatives in the Office of the President, the committee is made up of faculty members, administrators, Board of Visitors members and students. Its charge is to build on the ideas Beardsley has gathered in his “Grounds for Conversation” listening tour, which began in the spring.
Scheduled to begin work in August, the committee will conduct a community-wide survey and offer in-person and virtual opportunities for community members to provide input.
Beardsley has already identified several key priorities, including faculty excellence; access and affordability; exceptional student experience; robust research infrastructure; global opportunities and impact; world-class patient care; outstanding athletics; and the “Connected Grounds” initiative, which seeks to link the university’s physical campus, virtual platforms and intellectual community.
