Around the Clocks

See the way we mark time on Grounds

Mick Jagger sang it, and it’s true: Time waits for no one. Here at UVA, it’s impossible to escape; it’s ticking on the sleep screens of our smartphones and on the Cocke Hall Clock that hangs over the amphitheater. It’s printed on the front page of the Cavalier Daily and counting down on the $8 million scoreboard in John Paul Jones Arena. In Rouss and Robertson Halls, a 282-foot LED stock ticker keeps track of the always-changing stock market; all over Grounds, historical markers remind us of moments from the past that shape what the University is today. Here’s a look at some of the ways we mark time on Grounds.
