John S. Cooney (Col ’00) of Chicago died May 4, 2012. At the University, he majored in English and comparative religion and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Cooney was a staff editor and Web developer for the Council on Social Work Education in Alexandria before moving to Chicago in 2004. In Chicago, Mr. Cooney was a Web development team leader for Orbit Media Studios and had taught Web design at Loyola University since 2008.

Sarah Catherine Maxwell (Grad ’02, ’14) of Charlottesville died June 8, 2012. At the University, she was PhD candidate in American history. She was an avid knitter and a member of the Blue Ridge Area Soaring Society.

Jill Marie Bailey Chenet (Educ ’07) of Salem, Va., died July 25, 2012. She was a second-grade teacher to students with hearing impairments at the River School in Washington, D.C., who enjoyed helping her students realize their full potential in the classroom.
