Winston Gerald Howard (Col ’96, Com ’05 L/M) of Philadelphia died July 13, 2016. He was talented at playing the piano from a young age and also became involved in track and field, which he continued through college as captain of the track and field team at UVA. Mr. Howard was a league champion sprinter, long jumper and high jumper; his Chestnut Hill Academy athletic records remain unbroken, as do his UVA track and field records in 100- and 200-meter sprints from 1995. He also loved playing basketball in high school and college. After college, Mr. Howard became an environmental consultant and eventually transitioned into information technology as network administrator at UVA and later at Capital One. After earning his master’s degree at UVA, he moved with his wife to Washington, D.C., and then to Austin, Texas, where he became vice president of managed services for eLoyalty. In 2012, they returned with their children to the East Coast, where Mr. Howard was excited to be able to attend Philadelphia sporting events such as 76ers, Phillies and Eagles games. Survivors include his wife, three children, his parents, and a brother.
