Stephanie Ellen Byrd (Col ’90) of Virginia Beach died March 1, 2018. A sociologist with a doctorate from New York University, Ms. Byrd was an accomplished academic. She served a fellowship at Emory University, published many articles and worked several years as a professor of sociology at Christopher Newport University. A world traveler, she landed back home in Virginia Beach. She had a strong sense of social justice and of human interdependence, and she was made of love, generosity and integrity. Survivors include her mother; a sister, Anne Byrd Faircloth (Col ’90); and a brother.
