Patrick G. Holyfield (Col ’90 L/M) of Charlotte, N.C., died Aug. 21, 2014. An author who wrote under the name P.G. Holyfield, he published various works of speculative fiction, including the novel Murder at Avedon Hill and numerous short stories. He received the John W. Polidori Award for Best Vampire Novel of 2010 at the 2010 Foreword Book of the Year Awards. Mr. Holyfield was also a podcast and video producer and a voice actor. His most recent works include “Beyond the Wall” and “SpecFicMedia.com Presents: Consumption.” Mr. Holyfield loved spending time with his daughters. Survivors include his three daughters, his partner, his mother, father, stepmother and a brother.

Shawn Thomas Wilson (Col ’94 L/M) of Nashville, Tenn., died Oct. 23, 2014. At the University, he was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity and the men’s basketball team. He worked in the medical device sales industry, where he was known for both his knowledge and his ability to bring a positive attitude into the operating room. Mr. Wilson was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He also coached athletic teams for his two daughters, and was always ready to share a silly joke or say a kind word. Survivors include his wife, Kerry Katzenbach Wilson (Col ’97, Educ ’97 L/M), and their two daughters; his mother; two brothers; and many nieces and nephews.
