Henri Maria Barnwell (Med ’91) of Chesapeake, Va., died April 29, 2013. She was a pediatrician and an assistant professor of community pediatrics who taught a number of medical students and residents throughout her career. Dr. Barnwell began her medical career at Tidewater Pediatric Consultants, where she practiced from 1994 to 2002. She was a co-founder of Pediatric Partners of Hampton Roads, practicing there from 2002 to 2011, and worked for a handful of other medical practices and organizations. Dr. Barnwell served as chief of pediatrics at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center from 2001 to 2011 and as the hospital’s president-elect. She enjoyed giving back to her community and, in addition to working with medical students and pediatric residents, volunteered at the Chesapeake Health Clinic and served on the Chesapeake School Board Health Committee.

James A. McAdoo (Engr ’94 L/M) of Ashburn, Va., died May 1, 2013. He began his career working for NASA Langley, where, in addition to many other scientific achievements, he invented a digital mammography device that reduces a patient’s exposure to x-rays. Mr. McAdoo held six patents. Survivors include his wife and their two sons.

Karen Buck Konrad (Educ ’98) died May 20, 2013. She was a psychotherapist. Ms. Konrad kept a small sewing workshop in her apartment, where she tailored her own clothes and honed her sewing and upholstery skills and her great sense of design. She was a curious intellectual who loved gardening and often fixed cars and plumbing. Survivors include her mother.
