Esther Camellia Robbins Heatley (Educ ’90) of Lexington, Va., died Nov. 14, 2012. She taught elementary school for 45 years, teaching in Austin, Texas; Winston-Salem, N.C.; and most recently, Lexington. Ms. Heatley and her husband enjoyed gardening, landscaping, traveling abroad, reading, singing and ballroom dancing. She also enjoyed kayaking, hiking and cross-country skiing with her family.

William “Bill” Stuart (Col ’90 L/M) of Richmond, Va., died Sept. 9, 2012. He was a founding member of the Longwood University communication studies department, where he taught for 13 years and served as department chair. He won many awards during his career, but was most proud of his Chi Commendation, an honor given by Longwood University students that recognizes campus members and organizations for their contributions to the school’s community. Survivors include his wife and two sons.

John D. Zehr (Engr ’91 L/M) of West Hartford, Conn., died Nov. 27, 2012. At the University, he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He worked for Anderson Consulting and Starwave before moving to West Hartford in 2002, where he served as senior vice president of ESPN Mobile. Mr. Zehr loved traveling with his family, playing with Legos with his son, cooking with his older daughter and carrying his younger daughter on his shoulders. He was an enthusiastic sports fan and a talented cook. Survivors include his wife, Celeste Hebert Zehr (Col ’91 L/M).

David A. Sawyer (Engr ’92, ’94 L/M) of Parker, Colo., died Nov. 12, 2012. He was working as a professional engineer in Questa, N.M., for ASI Construction. Mr. Sawyer enjoyed the outdoors, skiing and sports of all kinds, and was a good friend to many.

Kent Kruse (Com ’93) of Mechanicsville, Va., died Dec. 5, 2012. At the University, he was a member of the men’s baseball team. Mr. Kruse was an employee of Owens & Minor, a medical supplies distributor.

Barbara Borgatta Wallace (Col ’99, Grad ’01) of Mineral, Va., died Nov. 29, 2012. She taught Italian at the University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University and sometimes at the University of Virginia.
