Charles A. Mangham Sr. (Col ’39, Med ’42 L/M) of Seattle died Aug. 17, 2018. At UVA, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and lived on the Lawn. After serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, he changed the course of his medical career and pursued psychiatry to be able to treat the mental anguish he saw on the battlefield. Later, he developed an interest in psychoanalysis and took a sabbatical in London to study under Anna Freud. Dr. Mangham spent the majority of his career as a child psychoanalyst before retiring at age 90. Survivors include his wife, Aileen; two sons, Charles Mangham Jr. (Med class of ’70) and Joel Mangham (Darden class of ’87); a daughter; and six grandchildren, including Andreas Mangham (Col class of ’20).
