Helen Dragas

  • The Board of Visitors approved a $2.24 billion operating budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year, a 5.4 percent increase over the previous year’s spending. Of the total, $1.22 billion was allocated to the University’s academic division, $980 million to the Medical Center, and $34 million to U.Va.’s College at Wise.
  • Undergraduate Virginians will pay $800 more in tuition and required fees next year, for a total of $9,300 per year. Their out-of-state classmates will pay an additional $1,850, for a total of $29,600. The new figures represent a 9.4 percent increase for in-state students over last year’s prices for tuition and fees, while the increase for non-Virginians is 6.7 percent.
  • Robert D. Hardie

  • Helen Dragas of Virginia Beach, chief executive officer of the Dragas Group, and Robert D. Hardie of Charlottesville, managing director of Level One Partners, were appointed in July to the Board of Visitors by Gov. Tim Kaine.

    After graduating from the College of Arts & Sciences in 1984, Dragas earned her M.B.A. at the Darden School in 1988.

    Hardie received a degree from the College of Arts & Sciences in 1987, an M.B.A. in 1995 and a Ph.D. in management in 1999, both from the Darden School. He also served as an adjunct member of the Darden faculty from 1999 to 2007.
