Portraiture in Spray Paint

James Dean Erickson (Col ’08) only paints people he knows. He paints them so large that their faces take up whole walls, their irises half a foot wide. As a fourth-year student, he painted a series of portraits of homeless men he met on the Corner, many of whom he provided with shelter in his Lawn room, where he’d built an extra bunk. “Painting is an act of gratitude for me,” Erickson says. “My subjects are people who have taught me important lessons.”

    James,

I really like your work but more especially the meaning behind it all.  It makes what you do really special.  Keep giving and reaching out, more of us need to do some reaching out such as you have done.
