The newly opened Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center will offer the most advanced, comprehensive treatment options available, but that may not be what patients notice first. Abundant natural light and materials create a warm and welcoming environment, and a host of design features make outpatient care more comfortable and convenient. In short, this is a medical facility designed from the patient’s point of view.

The $74 million building brings together U.Va.’s team of specialized cancer experts and technology available in only a few U.S. cancer centers. U.Va. is the first to provide radiation oncology treatment with TomoHD, which delivers precisely targeted radiation treatment and preserves healthy tissue.

Dedicated in April, the 150,000-square-foot facility is named for Emily Couric, the late Virginia state senator who died from pancreatic cancer in 2001.
