New Deans

TOPICS:

Kim Tanzer

Architecture

Kim Tanzer, a prominent professor of architecture most recently of the University of Florida, is the new dean of the U.Va. School of Architecture. She plans to introduce a Ph.D. program in architecture and create research centers that integrate architecture with other disciplines.

“I am honored,” says Tanzer, “to have the opportunity to work on behalf of the school’s exceptional students, alumni and faculty, who are educating tomorrow’s environmental design leaders and providing critical and timely knowledge and design responses.”

Batten School

Harry Harding

Harry Harding, one of America’s pre-eminent China scholars, is the first dean of the Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. The school trains students for public service careers in both domestic and international arenas, with an emphasis on leadership skills and professional development.

“Where more appropriate to establish this kind of school of public policy than at the university founded by Thomas Jefferson?” says Harding. “He grappled with domestic issues as governor and president, and with international issues as ambassador to France and secretary of state.”
