Sir John

Former U.S. Senator John Warner (Law ’53) was made honorary Knight Commander by Queen Elizabeth II on March 17. Warner was knighted in recognition of his work to strengthen the alliance between the United States and United Kingdom, particularly in the area of defense.

TJ Medals

This year’s recipients of the Thomas Jefferson Medals, the highest external honors bestowed by the University, are as follows: American artist Robert Irwin, Medal in Architecture; former Secretary of State Warren M. Christopher, Medal in Citizen Leadership; and Innocence Project co-founders Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld, Medal in Law.

Top Inventors

The U.Va. Patent Foundation named professors John P. Mugler III and James R. Brookeman the 2009 Edlich-Henderson Inventors of the Year. They were honored for their work in making magnetic resonance imaging technology perform faster and yield higher-resolution imagery.
