Historical Modern Dance

Oversized Representation of Lincoln's Deathbed

During a week as an artist in residence at U.Va., Tony Award-winning dancer and choreographer Bill T. Jones brought together students and community members with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company to produce a modern dance, 100 Migrations, inspired by the legacy of Abraham Lincoln.

One hundred dancers depicting the Union and Confederate armies performed around an oversized representation of Lincoln’s deathbed. Original music played while a speaker and singer dramatized excerpts from Lincoln’s well-known speeches, as well as quotes from the Book of Revelation.
