Renovated museum opens its doors

The University of Virginia Art Museum reopened after a $2 million summer renovation. New lighting and climate controls—which will allow the museum to get the accreditation it needs to secure better loans of art—have been installed in all the galleries. The second floor has been remodeled to provide a more flexible exhibition space and new classrooms for departments that use the museum as an academic resource. The museum entrance currently boasts a borrowed Alexander Calder mobile and an oil painting from the museum’s permanent collection, “The Lobby” by Willard Midgette.
