Virginia finishes 3rd in Director’s Cup

Virginia recorded its highest finish in the 17-year history of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup, coming in third in the annual all-sports competition.

The Cavaliers’ previous best finish was eighth place in 1999 and 2009. The results were announced Thursday.

Stanford won the competition for the 16th consecutive year with 1508.5 points. Florida was second with 1310.25 points, while UVa finished with 1253.25.

UCLA and Florida State rounded out the top five. ACC schools North Carolina (7th), Duke (10th) and Maryland (28th) also made the top 30.

UVa is one of 15 schools to rank in the top 30 of the final standings in each year of the program’s existence.
