Q&A with Coach Mike London
Fall 2010
As Mike London begins his first season as Virginia’s head coach, he faces a daunting list of challenges. He inherits a team that went 2-6 in the ACC and finished last season with a 3-9 overall record. Last year’s top passer, the top four rushers and three of the four leading receivers are gone. Defensively, the Cavaliers have lost three of their six leading tacklers. These teams are part of an elite group among Cavalier sports, as only 11 athletic programs have officially garnered No. 1 rankings in sports polls. Here’s a look at some glory years:Men’s lacrosse: Though the current program under…

Awards heaped on Monica Wright (Col ’10)

Monica Wright has made her last basket in a U.Va. uniform, but her name will stand in the Cavalier record books for years to come. Not only did Wright set the school record as all-time leading scorer with 2,540 points, but she also became the first U.Va. women’s basketball player to be named an Associated Press first-team All-American.“This is a tremendous honor, and I can honestly breathe a sigh of satisfaction, knowing that four years of hard work have paid off,” Wright (Col ’10) said when the AP list was announced March 30.The honors have poured in for Wright since…
