The Pratt Ginkgo
The Pratt Ginkgo was planted in 1860 by U.Va.‘s first superintendent, William Pratt. A horse hitch from the early days of U.Va. may be found to the northeast side of the trunk. Each fall, this majestic tree is among the very last to turn colour, usually in mid- to late- November. After yellowing spectacularly, the tree then drops almost all of its leaves at once- a reliable sign that winter has come.
