Carlos Felipe Gomez (Col ’80, Med ’91) of Washington, D.C., died June 12, 2010. At the University, he was a member of the Z Society. Dr. Gomez worked for the Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University, the District of Columbia Pediatric Palliative Care Collaboration and the U.Va. School of Medicine.

Larry Wayne Pulliam (Com ’80 A/M) of Norfolk, Va., died May 8, 2010. He began his career with Sovran Bank (now Bank of America) as a trust officer in Norfolk, where he valued stocks and managed investment portfolios. Later, Mr. Pulliam worked as a stockbroker with Prudential Bache Securities, Norfolk, where he trained at the U.S. Stock Exchange in New York City. For many years he worked for Financial Designs of Virginia in Virginia Beach as a retirement and investment planner. For the past five years, Mr. Pulliam was self-employed as an independent registered representative with Quest Capital Strategies as a retirement and investment planner for a select portfolio of small businesses and private clients. He was a registered and certified personal trainer with the American Council on Exercise.

William Silmon Baker (Grad ’87) of Washington, D.C., died June 30, 2010. He served as dean and professor of higher education at American University.

Minnie Hildebrand Reynolds (Educ ’87) of Scottsville, Va., died May 9, 2010. She worked with her husband in church ministries in North Carolina and Virginia. Ms. Reynolds taught private kindergarten, the first in Buckingham County, and in the public schools of Bedford and Albemarle counties for 16 years. She was assistant activities director for Blue Ridge Nursing Home in Stuart, Va.

Patricia Ann Byrom (Educ ’89 A/M) of Crozet, Va., died June 29, 2010. A U.S. Air Force wife for 26 years, she served and supported families through the various wives’ and officers’ groups at the bases where she and her family were stationed. She taught elementary school in California, Nebraska, Northern Virginia and Indiana. Ms. Byrom was a special education elementary schoolteacher, serving Albemarle County schools at their education offices, then at Stone Robinson Elementary School. She retired from Crozet Elementary School after 22 years.
