Edward F. Johnston Jr. (Grad ’80 L/M) of Topsail Beach, N.C., died Jan. 10, 2013. During his career, he served as the minister of Cove Presbyterian Church in Covesville, Va.; Greenville Presbyterian Church in Donalds, S.C.; Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church in Clinton, N.C.; and First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, Miss. During this time, he also served as moderator of Wilmington Presbytery and as fraternal representative of the Presbyterian Church USA to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. He retired to Topsail Beach in 1981. Rev. Johnston was a gentleman and a wonderful father.

Steirling G. Gordon Jr. (Col ’81) of Greenfield Center, N.Y., died Nov. 2, 2012. At the University, he studied anthropology. After graduation, he managed the Bird’s Nest Florist and Gallery in Charlottesville. Mr. Gordon was an artist, sculptor and writer who loved to create. He worked as the art studio manager for Gordon Fine Arts in Greenfield Center and helped produce the Saratoga Arts Celebration in Saratoga Spa State Park.
