A plaque on the north exterior wall of the Rotunda was dedicated in memory of U.S. Army Capt. Humayun S.M. Khan (Col ’00) during a ceremony on May 2. Khan, the University’s lone alumnus to die in the Iraq War, was killed in 2004 after stopping a taxi loaded with explosives.

Congratulations to George Garmany (Col ’69, Med ’74) who won a $25 gift card to the UVA Bookstore for correctly answering that this is a detail of the pediment frieze on Old Cabell Hall.  It features Truth, appearing above a Greek inscription from John 8:23, which translates to “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Artist: George Julian Zolnay ca. 1898.
