Michelle Devereaux (Educ ’10) is an assistant professor of English and English education at Kennesaw State University. Her first book, Teaching About Dialect Variations and Language in the Secondary English Classroom: Power, Prestige and Prejudice (Routledge, 2014) received the 2016 Richard A. Meade Award for Research in English Education from the Conference on English Education of the National Council for Teachers of English.
Caleb Dunn (Col ’10) and Danielle MacGregor Dunn (Arch ’11) have launched EddiKit, a startup that offers a greeting card subscription service. Subscribers register dates of occasions that call for a greeting card and receive a monthly kit containing a card, a stamp and other essentials. The kit arrives in time for users to mail cards for the occasions, reducing the possibility of forgetting the date.
Mary Alexander Gordon (Col ’10, Educ ’10 L/M) and Derek Bradley Murray (Educ ’10) were married at the UVA Chapel on Nov. 7, 2015. The couple lives in Northern Virginia, where Ms. Murray teaches in Alexandria and Mr. Murray teaches in Vienna.
Anthony Greene (Col ’10, Law ’16) Reedy Swanson (Col ’12, Law ’16 L/M) and George Zaras (Col ’12, Law ’16) traveled to Myanmar over winter break to research a range of human rights issues as part of the Human Rights Study Project at UVA’s School of Law. The group spent 15 days in the country studying the impact of foreign investment to health care and Myanmar’s constitution, among other issues.
Trevor J. Hardy (Col ’10 L/M) is an attorney with Ulmer & Berne in Cleveland, Ohio, where his practice focuses on complex business litigation and employment and labor litigation. He represents and counsels public and private companies on a wide range of issues in both state and federal courts. Previously, he was an associate at Mazanec Raskin & Ryder, and his experience includes managing discovery, motion practice, trial preparation and other aspects of litigation.
William L. Jackson Jr. (Darden ’10) has been appointed chief medical officer of Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Dr. Jackson was previously an associate professor of medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University and chief medical offer at Alexandria Hospital at Inova Health System in Virginia. He led the Inova Telemedicine Institute as medical director for both the Fairfax and Alexandria hospitals and served as the first system director for adult critical care.
Christopher M. Lynn (Col ’10 L/M) and his wife, Kelly McVicar Lynn (Col ’10 L/M), welcomed their first child, a son, Brady Elliot, in October 2015. The family lives in Burke, Virginia.
Stirling Douglas McDavid (Nurs ’10) and her husband, Clem, welcomed a daughter, Palmer Caton, on June 11, 2015. Palmer is the granddaughter of Sandy Douglas (Col ’83 L/M) and Dabney Watts Douglas (Col ’84 L/M); great-granddaughter of Jimmy Watts III (Law ’65) and John Feagans (Col ’60 L/M); and great-niece of Jimmy Watts IV (Col ’88 L/M).
Trevor Loomis Merrion (Col ’10) and Michelle Wagner (Col ’10) were married June 12, 2015, in Richmond, Virginia. Ms. Wagner-Merrion is in her second year of medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University, and Mr. Merrion works as an assistant to the curator of Asian cultural history at the Smithsonian Institution.
Tyler Padden (Engr ’10) and Lyndsey Lawrence Padden (Col ’10, Com ’11) welcomed a daughter, Nora Kathryn, on Oct. 27, 2015. The family lives in Cincinnati.
Dean Razavi (Law ’10) has left his full-time job as a litigation attorney to become an indie game developer. Vidar, his first role-playing game (slated for release on PC in 2017) is a game with a randomly generated plot that mirrors his own embrace of the unknown.
Lara Asher Russo (Com ’10) and Patrick Lee Young (Com ’11) were married at the UVA Chapel on April 9, 2016. The couple lives in San Francisco.
Casey Stein (Col ’10 L/M) and Daniel Rooney were married on Sept. 20, 2014, in Reston, Virginia. Ms. Rooney is the daughter of Janet Weissbecker Stein (Col ’79 L/M). The couple lives in New York City, where Ms. Rooney works at the nonprofit American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee while studying at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and Mr. Rooney is an associate at J.P. Morgan.
Kelly Underwood (Col ’10) received a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in May 2015 and was valedictorian of her class. Outside her studies, she was one of three founding student co-chairs of Virginia Tech Helping PAWS (Pet Assisted Wellness Service), a community program that provides stress relief and animal-assisted therapy to nursing homes, assisted-living centers, schools, libraries and other community locations. Dr. Underwood currently works at a small animal general practice in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Brittany Williams (Engr ’10 L/M) is an associate on Goldman Sachs’s credit risk management and ratings advisory team based out of London, United Kingdom, where she has lived since 2012. In this role, she is responsible for managing the firm’s lending and overall credit risk to more than 150 clients within the consumer retail and diversified industrials sectors. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling throughout Europe.
