More than 3,300 people attended Young Alumni Reunions on the Saturday evening of Homecomings Weekend in October. Under a clear night sky, alumni from UVA’s four most recently graduated classes gathered in the McIntire Amphitheater for a performance by DJ Young Rye, dancing, photo-booth zaniness and late-night food and drinks. In the weeks leading up to the event, word spread through social media with the hashtag #doyouYAR. “It was definitely the largest YAR we’ve ever had, and we were so pleased with the weather; it was a beautiful fall night,” says Jessica Hamilton, associate director of the UVA Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Programs and lead organizer of the event. At the University of Virginia, the postelection ignited a distinctly UVA form of protest: an outbreak of remarkably civil discourse about Thomas Jefferson.
