What’s the magazine’s mission?
The aim of The University of Virginia Magazine, which has been published continuously by an independent alumni association since 1901, is to strengthen the connection of alumni and friends to the University and with one another. The Virginia ethos—ongoing examinations of ethics, honor and leadership; commitment to academic rigor and athletic excellence; and the physical and philosophical legacy of Thomas Jefferson’s Academical Village—informs much of the magazine’s content. Just as Jefferson had an insatiable curiosity about the world around him, our readers expect to be educated throughout the magazine. While ultimately seeking to create informed good will toward U.Va., the magazine also gives voice to alumni concerns and looks objectively at difficult issues.
Who gets the magazine?
With a circulation that tops 200,000, the magazine is sent to all alumni, faculty, students, parents and friends of the University.
